Frequently Asked Questions
Even if you choose not to email your local MP you can use the Climate Action Score and other information to keep politicians accountable. We will keep the small amount of information you give us completely 'de-identified' (as a number!) which means private. We will not share it with any outside parties, especially government!
Unfortunately we are responsible for 7% of the world’s emissions (including our coal exports). Therefore as individuals each of us has more influence than any other citizens of the world do to make a difference.
Here’s how it works: 1. we stop selling coal > 2. coal prices go up > 3. big countries like China swap to renewables the cheaper alternative. That’s the power we have!
How can we expect other countries , especially developing ones, to go renewable if we don’t?
Governments have ten times the ability to stop climate change than individuals and the private sector do (Bill Gates 2020)
Voting in the senate about climate related legislation is an action. Proposing bills and motions is an action (a great example is independent Zali Steggal’s Climate bill)
This is the critical moment – we still have time to save the fragile beauty of life on earth for us and our descendants. Conversely missing this moment will condemn us all to an unthinkable future. Scientists have identified seven irreversible tipping points that can only be prevented by immediate and decisive climate action.
Politicians and political parties will become aware there are a large group of voters for whom climate change is more important than any other issue and who will not vote for them based on words alone. Every email received makes them realise they will be held to account for their actions and every Climate Action Score view is one more person relying on actions not words.
No. When you ‘vote’ on Vote Earth Now you are making a solemn promise or pact with yourself, your friends, your community and yes the politicians (!) that you will vote at every election based primarily on the action politicians have taken on climate change not just their words. Action on climate change is good for the environment, good for the economy and good for social justice – things all major political parties espouse. Therefore, you pledge to give absolute priority to the party with demonstrated action on climate change.
Because the poorest people and poorest countries in the world are bearing the brunt of the health and economic damage of climate change. Fossil fuels will not lift people out of poverty. Workers in fossil fuel industries will be much better off if governments legislate for a just transition and far more jobs will be possible in developing and maintaining renewable energy.

We will collate the data provided by small businesses and community groups when they become 'Friends of Vote Earth Now' (or "VEN-friends"). We can then publish de-identified information of what small businesses and community groups want from government to help with the renewable transformation. These suggestions could be as simple as assurance that recycling is correctly done or as complex as wanting subsidies to purchase electric vehicles for business.
