Who we are

The Renewable Energy Alliance, or RE-Alliance, is working to deliver a responsible shift to renewable energy that actively contributes to the strength of our regions.

We listen to and build the capacity of rural and regional Australians to lead the shift to renewables in their communities; we elevate stories that show how people in renewable energy regions are ensuring projects deliver local benefits; and we work tirelessly to ensure that rural and regional voices are at the centre of our advocacy with governments and industry.

We are an independent not-for-profit organisation operating across Australia, with more than a decade of experience working with regional communities navigating all forms of renewable energy, transmission and storage.

We play a unique role in Australia’s energy sector and are recognised for our leading work with regional communities to help them get the most out of the shift to clean energy in their regions. With over 40% of Australia’s electricity already coming from renewables and the energy shift expected to more than double that by 2030, our work has never been more important.

We are member-based

We are a member-based organisation. Our members include landholders, farmers, small business owners, climate campaigners, environmentalists, people living across regional Australia, and other Australians who want to see renewables done right for and with the regions hosting them.

If you see the value in what we’re trying to achieve, you can support our work by joining as a member.

We are independent and transparent

Our independence is a fundamental principle that underpins the strength of our voice in the public discussion around renewable energy. You can find our constitution here

Our organisation receives 75% of its funding from philanthropic sources. We receive a number of corporate donations from the renewable energy industry, which did not exceed 25% of our total funding in FY2025. Any renewable energy company donating towards our work signs this agreement, relinquishing rights to direct our work in any way. We receive a small amount of government funding for fee-for-service work. We are also supported by individual donors who value the work we do in regional communities. We are extremely grateful for their support. If you would like to join them in donating to support our work, you can do so here.

Our current financial records are available here at the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission.
